About the Cab Street Artwork:

In 1987 street skating was rapidly gaining popularity. Steve Caballero not only excelled at vert skating but was a top contender on the "Street-Style" circuit. Powell-Peralta decided to introduce an additional Cab deck model specifically designed for street. Artist V.C. Johnson created a new dragon graphic with a bats & bones background. Cab's name was also created in the bat shape since Cab was into Batman at the time. The Powell-Peralta logo was made using the Animal Chin font, also a sign of the times.

About the Skull & Snake Artwork:

Just as Mike McGill was perfecting the 540 McTwist in the summer of 1984 at Swedish summer camp, V.C.J. was working on a new deck graphic for him. Since the "Skull & Bones" theme was proving to be popular, that was the direction chosen for McGill's new deck. Mike's input was to add the snake and lightning bolts since there is an abundance of both in his home state of Florida. McGill's Skull & Snake is truly a classic skateboard icon.

About the Skateboarding Skeleton Artwork:

In 1977, artist VCJ illustrated two black-and-white posters to promote Bones wheels. About a year later, Court sat down to work on a new project that would turn that Bones theme into the concept of a skateboarding skeleton. To help Court make the image as realistic as possible, George bought a life-sized skeleton from a medical supply shop. Court named her Rosie. After several hours of propping and rigging, Rosie hung frozen in the position of a skateboarding skeleton. Court got to work. His piece, completed near the end of 1978, served as a Bones sticker and T-shirt graphic, the first illustration created under the new Powell Peralta brand.

About the Vato Rat Bones Artwork:

The Vato Rat was created by artist Craig Stecyk. Coming from the Santa Monica Dogtown "Z-Boy" surf-skate scene of the 1970's, Stecyk was surrounded by Hispanic gang culture and graffiti. At the time he was airbrushing a lot of Zephyr surfboards and blended that influence into his work. The Vato Rat was one of the many symbols he used to decorate surfboards and generally mark territory at local surf spots. In 1983 Stacy Peralta decided to bring the Vato Rat back as a Powell-Peralta graphic. They called it "Rat Bones" and it was used in advertising, on decks, stickers and T-shirts.
